The team representatives of Medicaid in Collaboration with Roche Pharmaceuticals convened at the Kebbi State Government House on a courtesy call to His Excellency Sen. Atiku Bagudu.
Her Excellency Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu in her opening remarks said that the aim of the visit was to establish a tripartite partnership between the State Government, Medicaid and Roche in order to engage, proffer solutions to needs assessments carried out and institutionalise excellent approach to disease control in the State Especially Cancer Control. The First Lady pointed out the positive impact of the advocacy and awareness campaigns by Medicaid which had continued to give the Society resilience not to only view cancer as a killer disease but courage to embrace and tackle it amicably.
Furthermore, Her Excellency Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu acknowledged the presence of two Cancer registries at the Federal Medical Centre and Sir Yahaya Memorial Specialist Hospital respectively, and the availability of 10 Million Naira indigent funds which the indigenes are currently benefiting from.
His Excellency Sen. Atiku Bagudu appreciated the remarkable leadership of the Office of the First Lady of Kebbi State and for bringing Roche. He commended Roche for their enthusiasm and willingness to make a positive impact in the State Healthcare.
The Governor acknowledged the contribution of Medicaid Foundation to Healthcare, engaging awareness and public enlightenment to sensitize people on what CANCER is about, under the leadership of his wife Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu. In a show of what leadership by example should be like and to further motivate the members of the Kebbi State Cancer Control Steering Committee, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu said that together with his wife, the First Lady of the State, will serve as Chairpersons for the Steering Committee.
The Country Manager of Roche, Dr Oladipupo Hameed expressed his profound gratitude to His Excellency and his team for accepting their courtesy call despite busy schedules. He affirmed commitment to mutual partnership with Kebbi State and Medicaid on reducing the dangers of cancer, the State Government's expansion in their support against breast cancer, the inauguration and implementation of the Kebbi State Strategic Cancer Control Plan.
Dr. Ramatu Yahaya Hassan a Consultant to the Kebbi State Government on cancer care appreciated the Governor and First Lady of the state for initiating the idea of having a Strategic Cancer Control Plan for Kebbi State. And commended Governor Atiku Bagudu for his zeal and commitment to the eradication of diseases in the region.
Her Excellency Dr. Zainab was delighted about the support and commitment of the State Government to the provision of Healthcare delivery to the people and thanked the Governor for his various health intervention programmes in the State.
His Excellency Sen. Atiku Bagudu in closing, endorsed Roche and invited them to participate in the four major Kebbi State festivals.
