KEBBI STATE GOVERNMENT HAS APPROVED THE SUM OF FIFTEEN MILLION NAIRA TO FIGHT RABIES IN KEBBI STATE

His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kebbi State Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has approved the sum of 15 million naira to control the outbreak of Rabies in Kebbi State. Rabies is a viral disease transmitted mainly by dogs to human through dog bite. The disease can lead to death once the symptoms is manifested.
The approval was contained in a statement made by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Animal Health, Husbandry and Fisheries and the acting Head of Service, Alhaji Tanko Musa Magaji, mni. The Permanent Secretary confirm the death of ten years old boy as a result of rabies in Birnin Kebbi metropolis and other sporadic outbreaks in some parts of the state. He therefore commended the State Governor for this laudable effort and timely intervention and also the Ministry has already collaborated with the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association Kebbi State Chapter, in other to create awareness on media and other means of communication. He further gave his assurance that his Ministry will take all necessary action to stop the spread of the disease in the State.
The Director Veterinary Services of the Ministry of Animal Health, Husbandry and Fisheries, Dr. Bala Muhammed Kakale, applauded the State Governor for his kind and humanly effort. He hereby called on dogs owners to be aware of any strange behavior shown by their pets and called on them to report such to the nearest Veterinary Clinic. The director urged people to come out en mass for the state wide vaccination exercise which has since commenced and more than 21,000 dogs are targeted for the exercise.
