KEBBI WOMEN AT IFTAR (Breaking of Fast)

Her Excellency, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu has set the tradition of hosting various women groups at the Kebbi State government house. The practice is normal for the state executive governor and males but it’s the first time women groups are formally involved. The Iftar dinner is an avenue to foster unity among the people of Kebbi state regardless of their religious affiliation, beliefs and tribe.

This year’s Iftar dinners had groups including, wives of government officials, Female Councilors, Female Medical practitioners and Nurses, Female Lawyers, School Principals and Teachers, Secondary school students, Orphanage, School for disabled, Youth Corp Members, Market women union and NGO’s.

At sun set, the ladies pray in congregation at then government house mosque and then proceed to eat. Her Excellency’s assistant on Islamic affairs, Mallama Nasare gives a short lecture then the floor is open for the ladies to speak on various topical issues in their field of work. The wife of the governor responds and the evening closes with special prayers for the nation’s unity, peace and security.

This year’s most special iftar was with 150 female students drawn from different secondary schools. The girls were absolutely delighted to have been included and couldn’t hide their joy.
