PRESS RELEASE: Kebbi State Governor’s Wife Sensitizes Physically Challenged Persons on COVID-19
In her continuous efforts to support the ongoing campaigns against the spread of the deadly Coronavirus Disease Pandemic (COVID-19), the wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, has met the leaders of the physically challenged persons from twenty one Local Government Areas of the State, to sensitize them on preventive measures to adopt against Covid-19.
Dr. Zainab said the sensitization on Covid-19 to leaders of the physically challenged persons became necessary in view of their vintage position in the society
According to her, "they command the respect of their followers, to amplify the messages across to them, in their respective local government areas."
She said that, Coronavirus Disease has no cure yet and the pandemic is ravaging the world, with Nigeria recording over 200 cases of infected persons.
According to her, adopting preventive measures primarily on environmental and personal hygiene, especially routine washing of the hands, as many times as possible, with a soap, sanitizer or ash, was one of the most important preventive measures.
"It is better to adopt necessary measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 by engaging in personal hygiene, importantly washing of the hands.
"What we are saying also is that, we should take measures against the disease, we should not allow the disease overwhelm our health system.
"This is because the system cannot cope. We don't have enough hospitals and doctors, "she cautioned.
Dr. Zainab also admonished the leaders of physically challenged persons to avoid social gatherings, maintain physical spacing and stay at home, where necessary.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Abubakar A. Kaoje said the meeting was part of Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu's sustained diligent efforts to ensure that, all groups including vulnerable groups got sensitized on Covid-19.
He explained that Kebbi State has not recorded any outbreak of the disease, while commending the measures put in place by Senator Atiku Bagudu- led administration to curb the outbreak of the disease.
In his response, the Chairman of the physically challenged persons, Abdullahi Aliyu, expressed utmost gratitude to Dr. Zainab Bagudu for involving their group in her awareness campaigns over the Covid-19 Pandemic.
He said "We are highly impressed with the wife of the Governor, at a time when we think we have been abandoned and ignored, she brought hope and concern to us."
He promised to go back and cascade the knowledge they have learnt to their members on the dangers and preventive measures to take against Covid-19.
Highlights of the program included enlightenment video shows and demonstration on proper hand washing method anchored by Malam Yusuf Sauwa, the State Health Officer.
