Kebbi Governor Assents to N642.9 billion 2026 Budget
Birnin Kebbi – On Tuesday, Governor Nasir Idris formally approved the N642.9 billion appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s legislative calendar. The bill, previously adopted by the Kebbi State House of Assembly, was handed to the governor by Speaker Alhaji Usman Muhammad‑Zuru at Government House.
In a brief address after signing the document, Governor Idris thanked the speaker and the legislators for the swift passage of the budget. “I am the happiest person that this government truly belongs to the people of the state. Whatever we do is done in the best interest of the people,” he said. He continued, “We are working harmoniously with the State House of Assembly to move the state forward and take it to greater heights, in line with our people‑oriented governance.
He also emphasized the need to increase internally generated revenue (IGR), noting that federal allocations alone would not suffice. “People should understand that the budget is not money already in hand; rather, it is a projection of expected revenue, either from IGR or federal allocations,” he explained.
Speaker Muhammad‑Zuru described the signing as a significant milestone in the state’s democratic journey. “You have so far assented to about 60 bills passed by the House, many of which have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state,” he remarked. He reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to sustained cooperation with the executive, stating, “We remain dedicated to working together to accelerate development for the benefit of our citizens.” He outlined the budget’s composition: recurrent spending amounts to N163.57 billion (25 % of the total), while capital outlay is set at N479.36 billion (75 %). He confirmed that the overall 2026 budget of N642.9 billion, as presented by the governor, had been duly approved by the House.
Governor Idris concluded by praising the assembly as a true representative of the people, noting that it had carefully considered and ratified several executive‑initiated bills. “Together, we will ensure that the resources allocated in this budget translate into tangible improvements in the lives of our citizens,” he said.
The enactment of the 2026 budget paves the way for a series of development projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, agriculture and social services across Kebbi State.
