Press Release: Use Ramadan to pray for Nigeria - Bagudu enjoins Nigerians
Nigerians have been enjoined to use the month of Ramadan, to fervently pray to God, to salvage Nigeria from the myriad of problems bedevilling the country, especially the recurring security challeges .
Kebbi State Governor , Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, made the call, while playing host to a section of Civil Servants, including the Judiciary, Legislators and Heads of Federal and State Agencies, who were in Government House, Birnin Kebbi, on Monday, for the traditional Ramadan breakfast (Iftar).
The Governor, while thanking all the invitees for attending the Ramadan breakfast with him, made a passionate appeal to all the categories of Nigerians to hold tight to their faith and indulge in prayers, for the intervention of God.
This, he added, was for the divine intervention, to salvage the country from the feracious activities of criminal bandits and other unpatented elements .
Bagudu expressed sadness over the prevailing security challenges bedevilling Nigeria, which according to him were aggravated by the use of drugs, lack of patience and intolerance amongst the people.
He appealed to youths in the country, to desist from taking illicit drugs as they are inimical to their health and country.
'" What we are facing today is a combination of banditry and drug addiction, coupled with the lack of tolerance between one another.
" We must be prayerful for our dear country, tolerate one another, irrespective of tribe and religion," he averred.
In a sober voice, Governor Bagudu said: ' ' Nigeria is facing a trying period and this is the right time the country needs our prayers most," he said.
While also lamenting the criminal activities of bandits in some parts of Zuru Emirate, Bagudu said that, his government was applying multi-dimensional measures, to entrench peace and security of people in the area.
' Bandits had infiltrated into Kebbi State from Zamfara and Niger States to cause havoc in our communities .
"" Previously, the bandits come and operate from Mali, passing through Bachaka, in Augie local Government, but that has become history now, even this current problem we are facing will be overcome In Sha Allahu," he said.
Bagudu also advised communities who want to set up security vigilante groups to do so within the ambit of the law and called on politicians to stop politicizing issues of security.
He also admonished Nigerians, to continue to have faith in the ability of the present administration to overcome the security challenges facing the country .
Nigeria he said, is a country blessed with abundant human and natural resources, which must be used well for human development.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Honorable Muhammad Mamuda Wara who responded on behalf of the invitees, thanked Governor Bagudu for hosting them to break the Ramadan fast with him.
Wara appreciated the immense efforts of the Governor in steadily developing the whole fabrics of the state, which according to him, were tangible.
Among those who attended the Ramadan breakfast (Iftar), were Chief of Staff, Government House Birnin Kebbi, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu (Jarman Kabi), Resident Electoral Commissioner of Kebbi State, Alhaji Ahmed Bello Mahmud, Dr. Haliru Bala of National Population Commission, Judges, Khadis, Commissioners and House of Assembly Members,.
Others were: Permanent Secretaries, Special Advisers, the Auditor-General of the State, Faruku Ahmed Rufa’i and Chairman, SUBEB, Professor Suleiman Khalid, among others.
